Intention is the creative power that brings meaning into our lives. Its energy orients us. It is the beginning of any dream we may have. According to Bhuddist tradition, any decision we make is born out of an intention. I would add, whether we are conscious of it or not. Continue Reading
As I was walking my kids home from school I was reminded of the comfort that we can find in what doesn’t change, what feels eternal, and that this is what makes us feel we’re Home, right where we are meant to be, whether we were born there or are just passing through.Continue Reading
Chateau is the French word for castle. For those weeks I firmly engrained “chateau” into my vocabulary. We were in La Dordogne for nearly two weeks, touring the valley of a river in Western France whose banks are scattered with Chateaux.
It was just the three of us since my son was away at summer camp with friends. Visiting the Chateau de Beynac, walking among its cobblestone paths, in the summer heat with the breathtaking Dordogne River in the background, it was hard to imagine that there was a time when these places were less than idyllic. “Yesterday is but today’s memory, tomorrow is today’s dream.” – Kahlil Gibran
I remember spending a day a few years ago in a blissful state. It was summer vacation, and I was relaxing on the grass at the edge of a mountain pond. In daily life we often start to feel very much the opposite – that I must receive before I can give. How often have we found ourselves in these mental calculations – that we shouldn’t give a gift to a friend who we know won’t give one back – how easy it is to fall into the pattern of making our decisions based on what we think we will get from it or where it will get us?Continue Reading

I was sitting one morning in meditation, and after only 5 minutes I became aware of a sense of urgency, a notion in the mind and readiness in the body of need to get up and do something, to move on the next task. I heard my son call me from across the house, and my to-do list was not far from my awareness, by habit my mind thought it was time to begin the next activity, although I hadn’t finished my meditation.Continue Reading
