Intention is the creative power that brings meaning into our lives. Its energy orients us. It is the beginning of any dream we may have. According to Bhuddist tradition, any decision we make is born out of an intention. I would add, whether we are conscious of it or not.
Now that I am starting this blog and community I want to set an intention for it right off the bat. To set an intention is to resolve to act or be a certain way in the world. I know from experience that intention guides us wherever we are meant to go. We set our sights on a horizon and then traverse all it takes the get there.
My intentions for Quotidian Wisdom are:
- To find wisdom in daily life and promote rest, peace, clarity, softness, stillness, humor and respect in the process
- To be true to my own experience by sharing it
- To inspire others to do the same and honor their journeys
There are mountains and valleys that we can’t see from our vantage point now, but our intention pulls us through them. Its not always effortless, and it looks different for each one of us. When we ask why certain things happen in our lives, we often have our intention to thank.
Setting an intention to get a good job might drag you through nine years in school and a good deal of student debt. Setting an intention to be happy might force you to look at negative relationships. Intending to honor your calling in life will obviously mean that you have to give up all that blocks you from it.
Everything depends on our intention, whether we are conscious of it or not. So why not be proactive about it?
How to set an intention:
- Close your eyes and clear your mind
- Say, “my intention is to” and fill in the blank
- Remember your intention as often as possible
It’s really that simple.
What intention have you set in your life and what obstacles did it bring up?
